The inaugural Wukulele Festival took place last October and brought international stars of the ukulele to Worthing including Bob Brozman, Richard Durrant, Sophie Madeleine, The Re-entrants, Ukulelezaza, The Bobby McGees, The Half Sisters, U.K.E. (featuring Lionel K. Hubert), Yan Yalego and members of The Uke Box.For three days Worthing was buzzing with ukulele activity with hundreds of visitors flocking to the town for our jams, workshops, fabulous free fringe events and our outstanding evening concerts.
Wukulele Festival also commissioned a new work for ukulele (with generous support from PRS for Music Foundation and Grassroots Grants). Songwriter Sean O'Hagan worked with children from Whytemead First School to produce Music for Sixty Ukuleles and Sixty Children. The world premiere of this piece was performed by the children on the opening night of the festival.
