Aguilera Guitars & Ukuleles is a key
supporter of the inaugural
Wukulele Festival, offering a wide range of instruments for sale.
Captivated by Flamenco from an early age, Paul Aguilera ran Brighton's
monthly
flamenco night Cueva Flamenca (Flamenco Cave) and still often
performs with his own flamenco orchestra, Candela. His accomplishments
as a guitarist have led him to play at Glastonbury, WOMAD and Earth
Spirit festivals, the Lewes International Guitar Festival and the
Festival of Nordic
Arts, Norway. Paul has a Masters
degree from the
School of African and
Oriental Studies, specialising in Middle Eastern music. And he is also
a professional luthier who crafts all manner of stringed instruments,
including a range of ukuleles fashioned from Cuban cigar boxes. His
shop in Brighton's Edward Street is a musician's delight, crammed with
a vast range of guitars, bouzoukis, mandolins and more. His
customers are a roll call of the discerning and
dynamic. They include ukulele players Lee Evans, Foz Foster, The Half
Sisters and The Bobby McGees. Paul also repairs instruments and offers
lessons, sound advice and boundless enthusiasm. And he's the man who
taught Wukulele Festival producer Daniela Gargiulo how to play the uke!
